The weather had deteriorated all night long with high winds which rocked our small shelter. We found ourselves in a snow storm and near white-out conditions. The temperature had plummeted and Stan and I spent the entire day and night huddled up under that little bivy shelter on the hill.
It was miserable, the wind lifted the sides of the shelter, allowing the cold air to circulate through the tent. Small snowdrifts developed around the edge of my sleeping bag. Thankfully Stan was great company as we told stories and jokes between our scant meals of one freeze dried dinner, candy bars and trail mix. The snow was so bad that neither of us wanted to get out of our sleeping bags to pee. Eventually we both mustered the courage and where nearly run over by two caribou that had slipped in and taken up residence behind our tent. They ran between Stan and I missing both of us by a few yards.
Are we having fun yet? (Note the snow and ground is visible just behind the poll)
